Whatever thoughts wander idly through my mind while I'm trying to fall asleep will, without a shadow of doubt, be different from yours ... at least, I sincerely hope they are.
Amazingly, I can go all day without once wondering how heavy is my house, but in darkness under my duvet and waiting for my consciousness to dim itself this is something which has continued to rob me of sleep for a long time ( "If that's all you've to worry about, count yourself lucky matey!" you think to yourself ! ).
So I resolved to solve this puzzling question.
The average house here weighs 200 tonnes ... excluding the average weight of internal fixtures, furniture, the usual pile of personal possessions, a dog or cat, and me !
not an average English house
Oddly, I can't say this 'answer' means very much ... until I divided 200 tonnes by the weight of an average London red bus ( without passengers and driver ) making my house roughly equivalent in weight to 16 of them.
At last, I can rest in peace !

Worth adding that it will obviously weigh at least half a bus more on wet days ]
