Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy - theirs was a magic pairing, a partnership ( some might think it preordained ) which, at the absolute right time in the first third of the 20th century, captured the love of audiences and made them laugh until tears ran and ribs ached; a time when picture-goers left grim reality temporarily outside the picture palace entrance. Their comedy 'intelligence' has never been matched ... quite a thought.
